Cadburys drinking chocolate...what to do with it? 1kg of the stuff

I have a huge tub of this in the cupboard and apart form the obvious of a hot drink, I wouldn't mind using it up in cooking.

Does anyone know of any recipes to add this to?

If anyone has any idea of experimenting with it too, I don't mind having a go and letting you know what goes.

  • Melt with golden syrup and butter, stir in cornflakes or rice crispies and make chocolate crispies. Much nicer than the ones that just use melted chocolate.

Or for a different take on the hot drink theme, mix with cornflour before adding hot milk and a dollop of honey for gloopy Spanish hot chocolate.
  • Oh blimey thanks squeaky..thats loads.

Spanish hot choclate sounds strange. I'll give it a go though.

Actually just took a quick look and most of those recipes are either cocooa powder or chocolate itself.

You can use the recipes for cocoa, just add less sugar and/or milk.

Drinking chocolate mixes are basically cocoa plus sugar plus milk powder, so you just need to reduce sugar in the recipe unless you have a sweet tooth :)

Also, if the recipe does call for cocoa, then you should actually add a bit MORE of your chocolate powder to get the right amount of cocoa in there.

  • Done it :D

I popped out late this afternoon and bought a plastic lidded microwave pudding dish.

    Whisked up all together...

    75g SR flour
    50g Drinking chocolate
    50g caster sugar
    2 tbsp corn oil
    2 eggs
    approx 2/3 tbsp milk

poured this mixture into plastic tube
placed some chocolate chips I had left in the centre of the mixture then microwaved for about 3/4 minutes (didn't time it exactly will next time)

Blimey it was good although I needed more chocolate chips in the centre and they need covering more with mixture and it definitely needs chocolate custard on it ;)

Wasn;t very airy so next time may tamper with the eggs...maybe whisk the whites seperately and fold in the other ingredients.

Crush biscuits and stir in condensed milk and a few tbs drinking choc. flatten a bit of mixture in the palm of your hand then wrap it round a marshmallow and roll into a ball. Roll in dessicated coconut and leave to set.

Make chocolate banana milkshake by adding a couple of spoons of choc powder to a couple of bananas, some milk and then blend.
