Kitchen flooring calcs

Hi,

I'm trying to work out how much depth to allow for 10mm slate floor tiles placed on 3mm Electric heating mat and floor tile adhesive.

I'm thinking:-

Tiles - 10mm
Adhesive - 12mm????
Heating mat - 3mm

So 25mm depth in total, does this sound right or is the adhesive too thick or thin when set?

Thanks for any help,

Alan M is your man for this, but I think that some slate is notorious for wide variations in thickness and you will have to allow for that in your calculation.

Cheers, hopefully Alan will be along shortly.

The slate i've seen is apparently machined on one side to be 10mm thick, hopefully!

I just need to know what the average depth of the tile adhesive is once its set?

you should get this info from the adhesive manufacturer you intend to use but slate indeed any natural stone is notorious to get right. i get one of my guys to work it out but a 20kg bag should give you 6-8 m2 coverage approx if memory serves

I think i just need to know what the average depth of the tile adhesive is once its set? As i'm trying to calculate how much concrete i need.

This is what i've figured out so far and i've already layed the sand.

    Tiles 10mm
    Adhesive ??12mm????
    Heating Mat 3mm
    Insulation Boards 10mm
    Self Leveling Compound 5mm
    Concrete 145mm
    DPM 1200G
    Sand 15mm
    Hardcore

Do this all look okay? or what would you advise? I'm just trying to get the finished tiles roughly level with the hall floor boards.

    Cheers

It depends of the slate tiles. If they are machined nicely with no variation in width than a 10mm notched trowel so 2-4mm thick adhesive. Rustic slate will required a couple of mm more than the thickest part of all the tiles and a !!!!!! off tiler.
