Can i reclaim back house insurance premiums from paymentshield?

82 Posts
Good afternoon everyone,
I need some advice and help please. I was sold a house insurance policy by Crown Mortgages in 2007. The policy was taken out with PaymentShield as part of a mortgage deal which involved life insurance with Zurich.
I went into financial difficulties in December 2010 because of losing my job. Because of a failure to collect premiums PaymentShield cancelled my policy in March 2011. Do I have sufficient grounds to complain and get my monthly premiums dated back to 2007. I never claimed on the policy in all that time. I have already complained to Zurich about mis-selling of policy and handling of failure to collect premiums. Waiting for outcome of that.
Any help, advice and knowledge base would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You.

Dont really understand, the money wasnt there so they couldnt take the premiums. They failed because of you and now you are complaining that they didnt take them. From 2007 you had the cover, what makes you think you can have it back, had there been an incident you would have claimed. (or should I say your next of kin would)
In what way did they miss sell.
Am I understanding correctly.
It may affect you other ways, when you try to get any other kind of insurance, the companies are going to ask you 'have you ever had any insurance policy cancelled. You will have to answer yes to it all.
and we will never, ever return.
Complain about what?
You are required to have buildings insurance as a condition of your mortgage.
That doesnt mean you get your premiums back.
How can the insurer be responsible for your inability to control your finances?
You will get your premiums back when I get all my insurance premiums for the last 37 years accident/claim free driving. I didn't use it so should get it back.
and we will never, ever return.
However, a complaint along these lines would risk being dismissed by the Financial Ombudsman Service as frivolous - which my dictionary defines as "silly".
