if you have a lidl near you they do white and brown bread for 55p
instead of a cake maybe do fairycakes/iced buns people tend to get more when cakes sliced than they do in buns so they might stretch furtherDEC GC £463.67/£450

Happy New Year to all in the GC, I am another of the "returners" (head hung in shame) I went AWOL around mid November but would like to come back into the fold and get my spending back under control - New Year, New Start and all that....
I have normally worked on a monthly basis but having read through some of the posts from people who work out an annual budget, I will over the course of this week take a much closer look at all of my annual outgoings - should have done this sooner but you know there's always something else to do.
But I will start off the year with £50.00 for JanuaryJan - June Grocery spends = £531.61
July - Grocery spends = £119.54
Aug - Grocery spends = £0 -
Happy New Year to all!
Today was my first trip to the shops since Christmas Eve. I have been working nights and only just "surfaced" and really needed washing powder! I still have lots of food in the house but of course I bought food as well. I walked to my "local" A**i, so there was a limit to what I could carry home.
I have decided that there are certain essentials that I need in the house, extra to store cupboard items, so if I have them in stock I won't be forced to shop. So far they include...
washing powder
bread
tea
milk
onions
eggs
cheese.
The less I actually go shopping the less I spend...
This year I plan to bake more, meal plan and batch cook, I just need to get myself more organised!
Thank you to all you lovely people for your ideas and support!Grocery challenge month runs from 25th to 24th

surely this is really expensive? that works out at £15.80 for 20 sanwichs, you could buy 2 loves of bread for £1.10, 6 eggs for 80p, value mayo for 80p, cheese slices for £1.50 (or even grate a block of cheese) and some ham for £1.50, this would easily make a good selection of sandwichs for less than £5 with leftovers for your fridge, altho nice sandwich filler is diced pineapple mixed with philly you can use value ranges of both
you could buy a tomatoe and use any leftover eggs and some store cupboard items to make mini quiche, buy a bag or 2 of cocktail sausages and do a few mini toad in the holes aswell as sausages on there own, and some sausage rolls, breadsticks and carrot sticks with dips is nice aswell
i'm sure i'm teaching my granny to suck eggs but it's justa few suggestions
Yes I totally agree with you it is expensive, I was not sure from the original post what limits were on the food so just an alternative and if i was catering myself with my money I would not dream of doing it.
But if you are supplying a buffet with someone else providing the outlay and providing receipts and need to do something really quick and easy with limited space, it works.
We have done this at work as it has been cheaper than getting caterers and all we have is a small kitchen area. (we are not allowed to make things at home without a health certificate, so get away with bought sandwiches). This is just unpacking iyswim.0 -
