I like your thinking sunflower, but I am always disappointed by take away currys as I've worked as a chef, love cooking and always think I can do better!

Its not been too bad thou, I've adjusted the way I cook or reheat things (plate of food on a pan of boiling water covered in foil) and had one take away fish and chips!

I would have thought parts would have been sourceable 28th-30th and maybe even the 31st. but with noone at the agency.... And I decided not to do it myself if its the agents responsibility, which it is.

Anyway, got hold of them today. Am waiting for a repair man to call to arrange a visit. Unfortunately between work and uni I wont be home 9-5 from today till next Tuesday :(

Anyone think I can get a rent refund? Was without electric for almost 24 hours and without an oven for at least 10 days.

    Don't hold your breath!!

Your agents will have a key to your flat. Can't the repair man let himself in rather than wating until your times coincide?

Would you let a stranger enter your property unattended? I don't know anything about who the agency uses!

That was your choice. All you had to do was reset the circuit breaker-that does not require an emergency call out, it takes 1 minute, and is easier than changing a light bulb. You presumably still had the use of the hob, even if the oven element had failed.

Forgot to mention that the overall breaker for the flat is in a part of the property that I do not have access to. I was not told about the existence of this breaker and thought that the board in my flat was all I really needed, I was told that the meter was there (in the bit I can not get to) but didn't ask for a key as I thought it mostly irrelevant. It was not until Boxing day afternoon that a neighbour with a key to this bit came home.

Note that none of the breakers in my flat went it was the one next to my meter that went!

It was when I was on the phone to a sparky and he asked if my meter was showing any life that I realised I had to have access to this part of the building!

Silly me, but I do blame the agency for not supplying a key.
