scottish hydro bill - could it be an error

I live in a small 2 bedroom cottage where 1 bedroom is not used. My bill every 3 months has been around the same. Around £250. We never use estimate billing. We put in our metre reading every month so it is accurate then pay the bill in full at the end of the 3 months.

I paid my last bill at the end of november. and put my reading in for the end of this month and it is trying to tell me i owe £451 in less than 30 days. I don't understand how this has happened as we have not changed or added any more heating or electric equipment.

I have triple checked my reading on the metre and they are correct and they are correct what i typed in. How is this possible???

thanks for any help as i am stressing out. they are shut today so i can't phone them

You really can't compare a winter heating month with non heating months. That said it is a very big bill.

I suggest you try to get a handle on your winter consumption by taking daily meter reads for a week.

Also to get more meaningful help here you need to post more about what type of heating you have.
  • we have storage heaters which stay on at all times all year round so don't have any extra heating during the winter month. everything is the same. we have 2 metres. day and night. and both readings have went up massively. me and o/h are full time at work during the day as normal so we have done nothing different to create this bill. that is what is confusing.

If you are wondering if the meter could be faulty it is vital to start taking daily readings.
