Average gas price increase in 2011

With energy suppliers quietly upping the prices time and again, and using all sorts of marketing scams to hide the facts, we are paying more and more for our gas each year.
But how much more are we paying now? I found it very odd that with Google being better and more accurate than ever before, I could not find any reliable information about how much more the elusive "average household" paid in 2011 compared to 2010.
My guess is somewhere around 20%, but would love to find proof somewhere.
Is it available?

    It's all on the internet...

    http://www.decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/statistics/publications/prices/prices.aspx

    Gas prices rose 9.2% from Q3 2010 to Q3 2011.
    Gas price fell by 9% from Q3 2009 to Q3 2010.
and they rose by 5.9% the previous year.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

This is exactly what I mean.
If prices rose just under 10% in the past 12 months, and fell by just under 10% in the 12 months before, we should be paying pretty much the same as 2 years ago.
But we don't, not even close.

For gas, including all discounts and VAT, Tier 2 rate:

    January 2010 bill, I was paying 2.61p
    January 2011 bill, 2.419p, (down 7.3%)
January 2012 bill, I should be paying 2.8477p (up 17.7%)

Relative to 2.61p, to 2.8477 is 9.1% inflation over two years, equivalent to 4.5% annualised.

On SaveOnline 11, 3.22552p, which is currently available: it is 23.58% over two years.

Just for a bit of nostalgia:

On 2nd April 2011, I could have switched to E.ON Price Protection April 2013 fixed at 3.1p, for my London postcode. This would have been 19% increase over two years.

So, it's definitely not been 9% down and 9% up for me.
  • I would stick my neck on the line & say the figures quoted are wholesale prices not the prices consumers get charged .
Gotta love a good bargain !
