According to CEBR. Big changes ahead for European economies if they are right:

Can't get table to post straight. If anyone else knows how to, would be much obliged.

we've been hearing this as potential for a while (one of the offers dh got JUST after buying the house was in Brazil) and I think its really exciting for the world, if a little worrying for Europe....and of course us!0 -
Good - why on earth should thee UK have an economy with one quarter the population being the same size? Who on earth would complain about other countries gadually moving towards our level of income - surely this is what developmeent is all about?I think....0

Income or GDP per head is a far better measurement.
Sheer size has little to no meaningful bearing. Even more so when you factor in the contribution made by North Sea oil and gas.0 -
The UK has been stagnant or in recession for a while now, whilst Brazil is growing at quite a pace.0

brazil has a population of over 190 million; about three times the UK
so about 1/3 as rich as UK0 -
Hang on a minute, did anyone see the author of the report, cebr. The same group who state wrongly that house prices are going up a massive amount each year, now and forever. The same cebr Hamish and the daily express base their front page house price stories on.:exclamatiScams - Shared Equity, Shared Ownership, Newbuy, Firstbuy and Help to Buy.

If you look at last years GDP figures from a number of sources, how close we are to Brazil, and then consider that they're growing at around 7% pa while we're stagnant. UK economy has been destroyed by greed, nothing else.
They saw a quick pound to be made from importing everything and exporting nothing, never mind making it here and now the piggy bank is empty.

I don't disagree with that btw, but it is interesting on how this has changed the G6 to G7 to G8 to G20... It's a bit like the argument about China overtaking the USA. Overall the standard of living will continue to be far higher in the US but its indicative of the fact that both there and in Europe we need to stop the looking inwards and in-fighting with our neighbours or the opposition and get a grip on the fact that the power and economic dynamics are changing forever. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
