dianeclaire..... i noticed a huge diff in the meat..... i used to go to my butcher regualr.. but i got sucked into buying meat or getting r&r on meat from tescos.... now that i have gone back to the butchers.....i can really see the dif...or should i say taste the diff....:D

  • I try and menu plan each week and then go shopping with a list, but of course I also get drawn into buying those BOGOF deals that end up sitting in the cupboard and don't get used. And the naughty extras too, like cakes and biscuits.
So to help in my quest I'm halfway through developing a rolling 6 week menu. This way my family get to eat a variety of meals they like, I know what I'm cooking and hopefully I can look at trying to find alternative places to buy the things we need a few items at a time. As I mentioned in an earlier post I have given up Mr T for good already and I really want to succeed with this challenge so instead of running at it head on I know to commit to it long term baby steps is the way.
Oh and may I have a number please?
...it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.

    I've been Money Tipped!
What? You've managed to talk to him/ her? While she was messing about in your mouth?
    I'm impressed :T

Yep inbetween scrapings! lol It's amazing what you can get across when you feel passionately about the subject! she already felt passionately about it herself and had watched the prog on dispatches. Am I sad or what?

its right.. baby steps... as i think that way ......it will be part of your shopping habbit.....

also now that the kids have cottoned on to what i have been doing..... they totally agree.......maybe because of what i was like when i shopped in tescos......

even though my i had cut the amount of food we wasted down due to the excellent ideas etc on os.... i now have practically 0 waste......because i havent impulsed bought in the shops..... and i have only bought what i needed....

HopeElizzy,is your corner shop a Bells Store?

The shop is jacksons and used to be independant until about a year ago - now it's mostly sainsburys stuff on the shelves - feels like you're using a supermarket by going in there! :D
hi... hopeElizzy...........have you tried looking at the bigbarn site to see whats in your area........also you might find that butchers might sell butter... cheese......etc......what area are you from..? ...as some one on here if they are close to you might be able to recommend some places.......

 Thanks for that suggestion......I'm in Leicestershire. I asked at work today and one of the vets told me that the butchers usually has local butter from one of our farmers so I'll ask on saturday.

thanks for suggestions Rach & CTC
we don't do chinese supermarkets round here unfortunately Rach. And our Delis and a couple of privately owned supermarkets (franchises like costcutters) have fantastic cheese counters but they are jam packed of local & welsh cheeses which would be fine if there was a Welsh version of Edam.:D Still I have only really just started exploring the shops with us having a few towns to pick from so I'm hoping in time......
    Why DD1 can't have an addiction to applesmoked cheddar I don't know:confused:
We don't have many grocery wholesalers surprisingly enough, I think perhaps alot comes straight from the farms or groups of farmers but you got me thinking that the greengrocer in town has big containers of vinegar in pickling season so I may have a quite word and see if they can get me some in - they must buy it from somewhere!
got all inspired tonight and used up ready made pastry from freezer:o and apples that were getting on a bit and produced an apple pie and then went on to make a treacle tart!

Oh and I thought I'd nominate this for post of the month - I think recruiting 17 rebels is well worthy of a nomination:T
  • Was just about to nominate CTC for post of the month, but kscour beat me to it. So I secont (sp?) it.
    Anybody else?
