  • I`m feeling really good about doing this challenge and am managing fine away from mr T and any other supermarket. I doubled my milk order from riverford and it is lasting the whole week. No messing today, I looked in the fridge and saw cabbage, fennel and 3 spring onions. I chopped them up small and mixed them with frozen parsley and a tasty white sauce and cooked pasta. Added parmesan and I`ll bung it in the oven for about 40 minutes

I made my own muesli from storecupboard items, previously ordered from goodness direct. I may have to do another order with them but it is free p+p over £35

I needed some oven trays so did an online shop at https://www.lakelandlimited.co.uk

I spent enough to get the free postage and a free lock n lock cereal box

I had some gorgeous chocolate after lunch http://www.montezumas.co.uk/

It is very dark so I only ever need a couple of pieces to satisfy the craving

Also really good is this one in Edinburgh (and mail-order):

Okay, way too expensive for everyday eating (box of 4 is £3.75!) but for special occassion like a birthday these are brilliant and a work of art too!!

  • Can I be rebel No 4??? :D

I didn't think that I could avoid supermarkets but found out, that I've not been to Tesco's for 2 weeks and have only visited Sainsburys and Morrisons VERY briefly to get basics.

I have re-discovered our local shops and am actually saving money, not because it's cheaper but because I don't buy so much. If I do have to go to a supermarket, I feel so guilty (that's what this sites does to you :rotfl: )that I'm in and out in minutes - so no chance of buying all these extras.

Mind you, buying magazines in the local paper shop and not getting my WH Smith or Tesco's or Sainsburys points takes some weaning off.....I need some 'I'm addicted to points' help

  • optimist just think of it as them not getting any more data about you. They use the loyalty cards for their own ends.

I know I have saved zillions% more than I would have got from points anyway

  • taken from the long article above

"one of the most interesting effects of the loyalty scheme, says Stone, is that, once customers are "addicted" to shopping with a particular retailer, they become "insensitive to price".

I believe that this is true. They add money on here and there and I don`t think we notice. The price creeps up

it goes a lot deeper than I thought. Tagging has started and it won`t be long before we are being actively spied on. Again from the above link

"could start by demanding more information and more security guarantees on RFID tagging before it becomes a feature of our retail landscape. Or it could start by questioning whether a discount on your favourite brand of butter or a free trip to the zoo is worth the cost of being spied on. Or, to begin with, it might just start with a very simple statement: "No, I don't have a sodding loyalty card!"
  • Someone once made a t-shirt (to wear to the supermarket I guess?) which said something like "No I don't have a $%&*"! loyalty card" or "No I don't have a $%&*"! nectar card". I think he did it as a joke but they proved so popular that he set up a website selling them! :)

[He has stopped selling them though]

Must be very boring for the cashiers too, having to ask the same question 500 times a day!
