Mice in rented property

Who would be responsible for pest control in a rented property, the tenant or LL?

We've got a minimum of two mice in our house at the min, we tried putting a humane trap down but they weren't interested so we put a couple of poison bait traps down. They absolutely love them but they've been going in and out of them for at least two days now & are still going strong! Would appear they're super mice!

What does your tenancy agreement say?

It may depend on whether the tenants lifestyle has led to the mice arriving eg leaving food around etc or whether the mice were present before the tenancy started.

The tenancy agreement makes no mention of pest control.

We've been here 18 months and first saw the mouse about 3 weeks ago. We know it's not down to the cleanliness of the property as the house is cleaned upstairs and down every week & the kitchen is given the once over every day.
  • Just put some traditional traps down. No point getting in the landlord / agent just to put 2 traps down and then making them come everyday to check them. If you ever own a house you'll have to deal with it anyway. This time of year, a lot of people get a couple of mice in the property. Nothing the landlord can do about it

I tried chocolate, peanut butter, cheese, they didn't go for any of that! They love this poison though! They've been chowing down on it for 2 days now, I'm not sure how long it's supposed to take to work though!

I'd try the poison on a conventional trap in that case.

I think we may have to try that. Problem is getting them now being the time of year & all. If all else fails they'll drop down dead wherever that may be! I just hope it's not in the wall they're living in but I'd imagine the smell wouldn't be noticeable, I'm sure lots of people have them rotting under there noses & never know!

What did the instructions on the mouse bait say? presumably what it consisted of, and how you should use it?

With one of the most popular types, after a few days of the poison, the mice feel a bit queasy, go outside for fresh air and then collapse.

Is absolutely every source of food in an airtight container?
