Not sure if this is the best place to post or if it has been posted before.
Bought the cheap sat nav that is listed under deals on this site.
Registered as a new customer and tried to pay by paypal.
It would take the money and keep refunding it.
Paid with my Capital One card that i had not used since last Christmas. Card was replaced by Capital One due to possible fraud.
Before i could activate it, the old one was used, but only for £5, and they waited 2 weeks.Old card is now blocked, but is not until you activate the new one.
Did a quick search and it looks as if it has happened before at ebuyer.com, so it is worth checking if you bought anything by card.
Too much of a coincidence that they would not let me use my verified paypal account.

Christmas day, what do you expect?

To OP, were you able to use your card to buy booze last night?

  • Just to clarify.
If anyone bought anything from ebuyer.com using a credit card, check your statement.
It is the only place my card details could have been fraudulently obtained and then used

Doesn't everyone check their credit card statements? :)

Trouble is they seem to wait a couple of weeks, then take a couple of pounds, which you might miss if you just check the balance and then go for the larger amount

It was posted before in 2009, with the same "cheap sat nav". Whether it was the same fraud, I don't know.

In which case, I would have walked away and found somewhere else.

So why give them credit card details?

I believe a few years ago there was 'DNS Poison', as in, you thought you visited ebuyer, but you actually visited a rogue site. It didn't affect everyone, and you could detect the rogue site via the SSL certificate. Did you check the site integrity and authentication before handing over your card details?

Seems irrelevant what happened back in 2009. You would never buy anything from anyone ever again. It is not unusual to have the odd problem with paypal. It was only coincidence when there was a problem. It was the correct site.I phoned them twice, and paypal who checked the transactions. Just gave up and paid by card. There is another post on this forum, which i found when searching ebuyer, for earlier this month. Similar problem and more relevant.
