Yes I'd like to see them go bust! Along with the lying deputy manager and the muppety shop assistant who opened the box in the first place!

    So there!

    Oh you are so childish....muppety?

My point is that it is Christmas and stores who show a little consideration for their customers (in these diffcult times for businesses) might just get more custom through goodwill and being flexible than they will through rigidly adhering to pointless rules.

Will I buy anything from Dunelm? Nope. Will the OP? I doubt it. I bet a lot of others won't either after reading this thread.

The duvet wasn't opened. It was sealed. It was a gift. The OP just wanted a swap for a more expensive item. The store stood to lose precisely nothing by the exchange. They've lost a lot of goodwill.

    I hope they go bust.
You really don't understand how shops work do you? I think most people would be happy not to have you as a customer.

  • Ok - thanks all!
To update - those that got the bit about the store person opening the seal, and the fact it was returnable with an unbroken seal .. Thank you!

Today I received an apology - I exchanged the duvet, and made my further purchases!

The store manager was very sorry about how I had been treated the night previous and after looking at the cctv could see the box was sealed when I returned it.

And no they couldn't have had a double because it's a king size bed!

Alls well that ends well though!

Thanks all for your thoughts, xx

Hey that's fantastic news. At the end of the day though Dunrobbin only did what most people would consider to be the right thing at such a time of year!

Well done for sticking your ground and not being fobbed off by what was clearly initially poor customer service. I did a bit of digging and they are opening more stores so maybe at the moment due to expansion they have substandard poorly trained staff who need to go on a few more courses to learn what is acceptable.

To everyone who criticised the OP because they hadn't read her post properly......

KNICKERS to you !!!!! Bwhaa ha ha ha. :D

    Apparently retired from MSE!

I've had four or five different ones over the years. I retired Honeydog three years ago after a few spats with UKtim29.

I had another more recently which I recently inexplicably found myself logged out of last week and am bu**ered if I can remember which email I registered it with so have resurrected Honeydog.

Takoda was fun for a while but I no longer wished to participate in the kind of debates which that username attracted so I retired it.

I never use more than one at once though that would be just plain sad. Like the people who thank their own posts or use another account to back up a pathetic line of argument.

I'm incredibly flattered that you should show such interest in me. Gives me a totally warm fuzzy feeling inside.......

Really prefer forums with a subscription charge nowadays as you don't get anywhere near as much out and out nastiness (as opposed to my gentle poking of fun) and more helpfulness and harmony.

Back to discussing Dunrobbin now yeah?

As the post was written at 1:04 AM, I think that it's safe to assume that the actual exchange was done yesterday.

Nice to see the OP's issue was resolved.

The no refunds on things for hygiene reasons is perfectly acceptable, and it was also plainly evident that the OP have not done anything to bring into question the hygiene of the item and so it was in identical condition and hygiene to the instant it left the shop.

    Therefore the refund was reasonable.
