Faulty tablet - found 2 months after purchase

Options
Hi folks, wonder if anyone can give me an opinion on returning an item (store purchased)

Sister bought a tablet 2 months ago as a xmas gift for my neice. Brought it home, stored it away never thinking much of it. Taken it out 2 days ago ready for xmas, and decided to give it a go, just to check it was ok, but have found a couple of faults - one screen related and one sound/speaker related. Ive said Im happy to return this for her to the store she purchased from, but I just wondered if anyone knew what kinda position she/I will be in, considering it was purchased 2 months ago, and is only approaching xmas that we have found it to have faults.

Thanks in advance anyhow!

  • ah ok, Ill drop in tommorow and see what their customer service folk say. Im not too bothered about a refund, we just want a working tablet, even if it means a replacement or paying more for another model etc. thanks for the response!

Where was it purchased from out of curiosity?
  • hi again,

she purchased it from tj hughes.
  • It really depends where it was purchased from. If from the likes of Comet, Currys/Pcworld then they will most likely want it sent off for repair and returned back in a few weeks. If it was say a Apple store(an ipad for example), they most likely would exchange it there and then.
  • right yeah, she purchased it from tj hughes. she just saw a good deal and bought it while there, but packed it away never thinking it would have any problems, only finding out it has some screen issues and audio/speaker issues the last few days - but me being a bit more technical than her, shes got me to look into it and also return if possible. lol
  • the only thing i can see is tj hughes have gone bust so it may be a case of going to the company who made it for the exchange / repair
  • If it was paid for using a credit card then you could contact the card issuer and inform them that the retailer is no longer trading and that you wish to make a Section 75 claim. (I'm assuming that as it was a tablet, it would have cost over £100)
