Anyone know if the halifax and the RBS are the same bank?
because the halifax have exactly the same offer as the RBS £100 to switch.
I have a halifax acount and was wondering if I tried to switch would they refuse on the grounds that I already have an account with their group.

Correct. The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is indeed a different company to Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS), who's HQ is in Halifax which I drive past to get to work.

Following the merger of Halifax and Bank of Scotland on 10th September 2001, HBOS has 22 million customers. With assets of over £540 billion, it is the UK's largest mortgage and savings provider as well as being a major player in the provision of new current accounts and credit cards in the UK.

As other have said, the Bank of Scotland merged with Halifax to become HBOS. The Royal Bank of Scotland owns Natwest. All this confusion because they are so similar.0

Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) + NatWest = RBS
Halifax + Bank of Scotland (BOS) = HBOS0 -
Totally separate companies - in competition with each other............
No link at all so no reason for you not to get your £100.0 -
Just to reiterate:
Halifax merged with The Bank of Scotland to create HBOS (the media report it as being called Halifax Bank Of Scotland but the company never refers to itself as this, always HBOS, although it probably does stand for the above). They have their head office at The Mound in Edinburgh which was the Head Office of The Bank of Scotland and is the Group HQ. The Halifax brand will still have their 'area' HQ at Halifax, BoS will still be run out of The Mound.
The Royal Bank of Scotland (or as it prefers to be known nowadays, RBS) is also headquartered in Edinburgh. It took over NatWest in around 2000 and NatWest is a brand/subsidiary of RBS Group.
RBS and HBOS are totally separate banks, each issuing their own banknotes through their respective Scottish banks (RBS and BoS).
No idea what the previous poster meant by them not accepting Scottish cash - unless she means Halifax/NatWest branches in England/Wales not taking them, which I find bizarre.0 -
