Hi everyone.
Wanted to share my success in getting car insurance in London. Im sure others will benifit as it has been very hard and taken 10 hours of my life.
1st - problem - getting car insurance as a new arrival to the UK - try it. Was quoted £3000+ for a £3000 car. All because insurers don't count driving experience from back home - ive been driving for 10 years. So the insurers ask what lisence and you say UK full. They ask when did u get and you say last month. Then they tell you the premium and its massive.
So I thought I got around it with tescos because they ask "how long have you had your lisence" so I put 7 years and got a low premium - however on checking with underwriting they said this was not allowed and I have to put 1 month. SCREWED
So after much hair pulling I tried more comparison sites. I intially was using money supermarket. Anyway one of the comparison sites (unmentionable) you can say you just got your UK lisence but it also asks some questions about your driving experience. And I could put down that I have been driving a car not insured in my name - and also that I have been 5 years claim free - IMPORTANT - this is not claiming any NCD so it doens't need to be proven by you. To invalidate a claim the insure must find that you claimed as named driver on another person or company's policy. I haven't but even if I had it would be hard to find out I think.
RESULT: Got a car insured for £1665 pounds with Tescos with a £200 voluntary excess. The guy I dealt with was amazed because earlier he told me there was nothing he could do. he didn't realise you could add stuff about driving experience becasue they don't ask that - but one comparison site did!
Im sure some of you think that £1665 is alot - but when you are 26 on a working holiday visa with no NCD history this is freaking amazing. Most insurers dont even quote you because its well over £3000. I need a car for work and get a decent car allowance but it wouldn't cover £3k.
HOPE I HELP PPL - reply if i do!:A
Much love

BTW Mods - not being cocky but this deserves to be in quick links man!
