Vax - not had it long

Options
I've emailed them the following -

I have a Vax Power 2 Pet (model U90-P2-P) which I bought from ASDA less than a year ago. I think I registered the machine on your web site with the email address I have provided above. It could also be under my partners name and email address (...................). The serial number is .................................. The machine needed a new belt about a week ago which we feel is quite soon after purchase. My father who is an engineer fitted the correct replacement belt and this new belt needed replacing again a few days ago. We feel this is unsatisfactory. My father replaced the broken belt again yesterday and upon using it for the first time today there is a strong burning smell coming from the machine. So much that I have had to open the windows due to the smell. My father has advised me not to use the machine but to contact you. Obviously this will be very inconvenient to me over the Christmas holiday period. I await your response to this email.
What do you think I should expect?

  • Phone up there customer service, but if its getting through belts that fast it may be the actual machine at fault so they might have to look at replacing it.

From what i've heard Vax customer service is very good, similar to Dyson's so they would generally send an engineer out to have a look at the machine for you and judge where theres faults with the belt or hoover its self.

It's just as well that Vax customer service is so good because their products are terrible. I had a Vax for 3 days before I took it back (to Argos) because it simply didn't work properly. The box was full of instructions to contact Vax if there was a problem but I just went straight back to Argos where I got a replacement, a different brand, one that the sales assistant recommended after her experiences with a Vax! I didn't want to be fobbed off with endless repairs and have the bother of sending it back and waiting without a cleaner for weeks at a time.

It's a shame that your father replaced the belt, they may say that this has invalidated the warranty, although hopefully not, replacing a belt is quite an easy job, lots of shops sell replacement belts. Personally though, I'd have taken it back to Asda, your sales contract is with them. Do you still have the receipt?

I bought a Vax 2 years ago, with a 6 year warranty, its started turning itself off.... the customer service team say its a characteristic and to let it have a rest before I use it again!

My experiance with VAX customer service this morning was not what you would call good. I had a 13mth old handheld VAX libretto cleaner on which over Christmas the battery started not keeping its charge.

I was told the product is
    A) out of 12mth warrenty
    B) no longer sold
    C) they can no longer supply a spare battery either free or for sale
    D) your on your own and suggest you try Maplin for a lead acid battery

So searching the web I find numerous accounts of the battery failing in this product - sometimes in a matter of weeks and sometimes even the replacement failed again within 12mths.

Seems a clear case of a manufacturing defect that VAX are just washing their hands of by discontinuing what is otherwise a satisfactory product.

Luckily others have reported a satisfactory repair after buying a gell lead acid battery elsewhere and replacing it themselves.

The VAX website says they value our opinion so I have given mine to them...!!:j
  • the VAX pet models are terrible..I have had two and both needing binning after 6 months, both needed new belts, and cut out after a very short time. I do have a very very old VAX (Big old purple thing) that i bought back in 2000, still going strong!
