Normally the previous supplier can only block the transfer if you owe them over a certain amount.
Otherwise, that's what the bulk of the six week transfer period goes towards - some of it is cooling off, and the previous supplier will probably try to keep you on board.

Is the a cut of time when an old supplier can block the transfer?

The old supplier can't object to the transfer without a good reason, such as you have an outstanding balance. They do have a window to make that objection but I'm not sure when it expires.

I think the advice so far is fairly complete for the information you have given. Perhaps if you describe what is going on, you may get more illuminating answers.

    Well for example:

Elec goes on 1st of jan and the reading is very high as you had never had given.readings just estimates. Gas due to go.on 9th of Jan. You give your final elec reading on the 4th of Jan. Therefore you get a very large final elec bill. Could that stop your gas transfer?

Also how long does it take for readings to reach one supplier to another?
    ?

Ah, I think I get your drift. No, the "debt blocking" measures do not apply (because there is no debt). The losing supplier may or may not accept the transfer reading, however that is between the 2 suppliers to agree a reading. What is "certain" is the losing supplier final billed closing reading must be the same as the gaining supplier billed opening reading.

Anyway if you gave a reading on 4 Jan I would be very surprised if you would have the bill by 9 Jan (and have had a long enough opportunity not to pay).:D

As an aside, I have seen reports in this Forum of (Eon for example) interim estimated closing bills being issued. If that happens I suggest you change a habit of a lifetime and get the bill re-issued with the actual reading.

Jalexa I shall be ensuring the new supplier starts with the correct readings it may take a bit of phoning around and even getting a reader out to verify it. So if the loosing supplier Doest agree ill send them a photo of the meter

See my 3 word edit. If the losing supplier does not accept the transfer reading, the suppliers will agree amongst themselves, not with you. It is not a question of "disbelieving" you in a way which a meter reader or photograph would address, it is the apportioning of the usage which is agreed between suppliers. There is an industry agreed process to follow.

Anyway given that the (actual) reading is larger than the last estimated reading it is very unlikely the losing supplier will challenge the transfer reading.
