Sketchers shoes fell apart after one day

Options
I bought a pair of ankle boots from Skechers on Wednesday, and the next day at work the heel fell off. I was so embarrassed at the time and nearly fell over – I’ve never wore a shoe with the heal missing but its very hard to stay upright!
I work in an office and was therefore seated most of the day so the heel came off with very little wear at all.
I’ve emailed head office – who told me to call the store. The store will only issue a refund if I post the shoes back in ( at my expense) – but didn’t seem surprised or concerned that the shoes fell apart so quickly. I thought Sketchers would be a half decent brand – but clearly not. I don’t want to post the shoes into store at my expense – as they may decide not to refund – and then I wont have the shoes to complain further with, and will be out of pocket for postage too. Plus I don’t think this is good customer service at all! I’ve got photos and reciepts but apparently the store have said these aren’t good enough proof that the shoes are faulty.
Any advice at what to do!

How do you expect them to refund you without the boots ? If you really have only had them for one day, i can't see any reason at all why they wouldn't refund you once they get them back. You might have photos but your photo could be of anyones boots. You will have to send them back i'm afraid.
  • Is it just an online store of a physical store?

If the latter it would be easier to go and do it face to face.

Im guessing you bought these instore but dont want to/cant go back to the store?
  • I bought them in store on a day out. I don't have the time to go back in as it's quite far and dont want to pay for the train tickets. I think it would be a huge coincidence for me to have the receipt for the shoes if they weren't mine.
  • OK, makes sense.

You cannot, however, expect them to refund without having the product back.

well the problem is they have no obligation with regards to you returning them
I would return them(via a tracked method) and let them see them and get your refund
then approach head office regarding your postal outlay and the short lifespan of the product.
however bear in mind for future purchases the practicabilities of how you woud return an item.
