Car Insurance Accident Question

Options
I was recently in a car accident, where the other driver hit my car and then drove away from the scene.
I have been in touch with my car insurance and they are chasing the other driver now through their registration plate, and fighting that they must take liability for the damage.

The question I am asking really is that, I have never been in this kind of accident before, and my car insurance as saying that it can take up to 90 days before a final outcome is settled and confirmed.
The only problem is, is that my car insurance is up for renewal within 3 months.
If the claim is not settled by then, am I able to move onto a cheaper insurance holder if my current car insurance policy costing rises too high? Or will I have to stay with the same one until this issue is resolved?
Also, if I am able to move, will my current insurance provider still try to fight the case on my behalf?

    You can move.

If the matter is not resolved before renewal, then your NCD will be reduced (if not protected) pending the resolution. You will need to explain all this to your new insurer, and get their agreement to adjust your premium should your NCD be reinstated, and refund you any premium difference back to the start date of the new policy.

Moving won't have any effect on your claim.
  • You could also claim back any increased premium from the third party due to this accident as a consequential loss too.

Reading thru this topic and could be in a simular position very soon how do you go about claiming back the increased premium?

Doubtful, Seen many posts asking that and the advice is usually tough luck. Bit annoying when its not your fault
and its going to cost you more for at least 5 years.

They payout for the car and any losses whilst its being repaired, Hire car transport, Loss of excess etc. Thats it.

Any further losses are not covered.
