A year without plastic

Just realised that one year ago today we cut up our plastic :j

More through necessity than choice but ...hey ... that`s life.

WE HAVE NOW SURVIVED FOR A YEAR WITHOUT PLASTIC - USING CASH OR ON THE ONE OCCASION WE NEEDED A CHEQUE ( REFUSE TO PAY BANK £10 FOR ONE:eek: ) ASKING A FRIEND TO WRITE ONE AND GIVING HER CASH.

How have you coped without your flexible friends? If you have still got yours, could you cope without?

Ah well this is a thread I feel akin too! Even if I am a bit premature.

I cut up all my plastic last year and it felt bloody fantastic to do so.

I've still got a balance to pay off this month then it's all gone.

There have been one or two occasions since cutting up the plastic where I have thought "Oh...if only I had my card I could have just put it on there and paid it off at the end of the month..."

But we all know that's just crazy talk and the start of the slippery slope. Both of those times I was just whining to myself because I fancied buying a new top. The world hasn't imploded due to lack of said new top so....I guess it's going pretty well :D

Can't *wait* for next month when, for the first time in ??????????? months (years??) I won't have to pay a credit card bill.

Just wait ttil January next year after a cash Christmas. This is the first year that I can remember not having the "winter blues" after the big event and I put it down to less stress about money. Isn`t life wonderful.:j

I haven't cut mine up and still have balances on 2 but this is the 1st year where the cc debt hasn't gone up:j I am now sensible with it and have been using Egg Money to pay for certain things (like oil or other large bills which I have the money set aside for so that I can earn some cash back) and I have earned £41 this year. That's money I would never have had and I always pay this one off in full:j

  • I must be a credit card aholic. I am really scared to cut mine up. I keep going to do it and then make excuses like not being able to find scissors. I havent used any this year so am happy to leave them in a drawer like a comfort blanket. Once my budgeting kicks in proper and I prove to myself that I can do cash then no doubt I will do it then. xx

    Hi MIT

Am seriously scared too! Thought it was just me. Start panicking just thinking about it. They're also in a cuboard hidden away. Have got so used to having them that I want to keep them just in case, and it stops me from going mad. As I pay them off and cancel them I will then cut them up as a reward to myself for paying them off, that will make me feel so much better and won't have to stress about anything. My family live in Africa, so godforbid I might need them in emergency if something unforseen happens and I have to go home in a hurry.

Thanx for making me feel better
