What about giving them a weekend break thats what I did for my folks 40th a couple of nights at a really nice hotel and they thoroughly enjoyed it.
Or what about a nice little party (did that for my folks 50th), just immediate family and the best man and bridesmaids from their wedding all those years ago.
    Good luck with getting inspiration.
    Titch :)

I did not make myself very clear on the "anniversary clock" it does NOT have anniversary written on it or any tacky details - it just is antique. If they like the royal doulton rose pattern china - it is a bit like this.
If they like minimalist stuff then probably not suitable.

Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA
    Preemie hats - 2.

Thanks everyone. You have all given some great ideas. Anything I don't use for my parents 40th will be an idea for my in-laws 50th:)

You can get a beautiful plant called an Astrantia and there is a variety called Ruby Wedding. How about some good Ruby port, or a case of nice red wine, a voucher for a nice meal out at somewhere fancy. A family portrait might be good e.g. children, grandchildren. Most people at a certain age don't want presents anymore (me included and I'm not yet 40!). Maybe get them something you think they would like, but never buy for themselves. How about a trip in a hot air balloon if they are adventurous? Good luck.

I made my mum a set of 50 vouchers which she could use during the year. Some fun and some serious.
    for example
car to be washed by the grandchildren x5 of these
trays of my home grown bedding for free x6 (she always insists on paying me and refuses to just have them)
Sunday lunch - she has this anyway really
    day at the shops
DIY day (hubby does this one)
me to have my hair cut and I have to not tell her I wont!?!
Love living in a village in the country side

The vouchers and lists of treats that those of you have suggested are great. The only thing is that we live a long way from the parents so only see them 4 or 5 times a year and therefore didn't think it would work as well as it might if we lived close by and saw them regularly. Thanks everyone you have come up with some great ideas and I really appreciate them all:)
