Its my parents 50th this year and I really struggled to find something special that they wanted. So this is what we did
We drew up a list of 50 things we knew they would like - small things like a lunch cooked by the family, a tray of their favourite bedding plants for the garden, a bottle of malt whiskey etc etc and then we added "days" such as a committment to come round and do the garden for them, a shopping day for mum, a day watching the rugby on tv with the family serving drinks and nibbles for dad etc etc
We had real fun drawing up the list and now mum and dad have got all these things to look forward to during their 50th year.
Just a thought!0 -
Thanks Nelski. That is a nice idea - will have to give it some thought.0

I went into a small jewellers and saw an "Anniversary clock" it only nrrds winding up once a year and is antique. It had red roses and gold decoration on it and was loved by the relatives we gave it to on their Ruby Wedding.

Thanks elona. That sounds lovely. I think an anniversary clock would be perfect:) I hope I can find one now.0

I hope you don't mind me sticking my oar in but unless your parents have specifically expressed an interest in a clock then I would think again or at least check with them.
On our 30th anniversary we received so many gifts (even though I had very politely requested no presents) our house looked like a gift shop! I especially loathed the ones that had '30th Anniversary' on them! I left it for 4 weeks then gave them to the charity shop. Nelski's idea sounds great, and I have done a similar thing myself for Xmas presies for my mother and ma-in-law who at 80ish have most things they want to give house room to.
I know I must sound ungrateful and I'm truly not but it is so sad to see people wasting their hard earned cash on something useless and unwanted.0 -
We have a good nursery by us, and I usually get a variety of rose with a suitably inspired name. It's probably a bit cheaper than you wanted to spend, but might be good for any impoverished members of the family to buy.I have to agree about some of the awful anniversary things you can buy. I loathe them.0

Thanks everyone. This gift is causing me some concern as I do want to get them something they will like and is special for the occasion but not tacky. I liked the idea of something for the garden but felt that it was maybe a bit cheap. My sisters family and mine were going to club together but are having some difficulty in coming to an agreement on what to get. Parents have said no need for present but we still think occasion should be marked. Hopefully some of the ideas here will help:)0

You could make a family video for them and maybe a family photo album ... have forty as a theme .... 40 pix or 40 minutes worth of video messages ... 40 seconds per person ... or each person can do a 40 worded poem ... something on those lines ....
god i hope that makes sense:o erm, it is 40 years for a ruby wedding isn't it ???I can say whatever I like here ... 'cos no one can see me .. ner ner ner ner ner !!!....How do you know I ain't sitting here butt naked?!?!I thunk I've made you think for a minute!:j :rotfl: :j0 -
