Not feeling "christmasy" this year!!

I echo those sentiments Alistair. I actually enjoy Christmas on my own, even though I spend the rest of the year alone and at times it can get quite lonely not seeing or speaking to another person for days on end. Past Christmases I haven't had much choice as I haven't been well enough for company, this year I'm looking forward to being well enough to be up all day instead of only a few hours.
When my new cleaner found out I would be on my own on Christmas Day she mentioned the local Church organises a Christmas lunch for those on their own to get together. It's a nice idea and one I might look into in future years, but for now I'm happy just sharing the day with my dogs.
I like the idea of being around others when I'm eventually well enough, the volunteering sounds like a great day out and one of my best Christmases was actually spent working in a Circle K shop in the early 90s when nothing else was open on Christmas Day. But shutting the door and saying "this is MY day" has been absolutely fine with me these last few years. I just wish the whole country didn't make such a big fuss about it all, it's only one day after all. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

That's a great post - and definitely rings true with me. It isn't Christmas that I hate; it's the hype and the "expectations" imposed on us.
Merry Everydaymas!

For a variety of reasons... but I've thought "oh, stuff it" this year; I have no money and my beloved dog Jasper is dying. So I've volunteered to help out at the local old folks' home on Christmas Day, doing bits for the Christmas lunch for the residents and other lonely old people from the town. I actually think that's going to make me much happier than sitting around, stuffing food I don't want and regretting that I can't afford to give expensive presents...
Not sure how pleased my parents are about it, but I'm quite looking forward to getting stuck in with the oldies now!

Bless you Ruth, you obvious havent thought "Oh Stuff it" you are giving the best gift of all. TIME and CARING.
I am not feeling Christmasey at all, lost my Dad, Son and best friend either just before or just after. So Christmas has lost its magic. Have to do it for the young ones but really would rather not.
but think I would quite like to be one of your oldies.
God bless have a great day Meg xxxxxxxxSlimming World at target0 -

You can tell by your post that you have never had children, shame because children make christmas special.0 -
I have plenty of friends with children and will happily make the effort to keep the magic going for them. But magic and commercialism are two different things. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN
