  • Try to think positively. This time last year were you really stressed out about the amount you spent and how much the repayments were going to be on your cards etc?

I cant wait to bring in 2012 with a smile.

    EVERYone?

Not from my lofty perch they aren't!

As for designer clothes? Well, it'll be a pretty good bet 90% will be fakes made in Manchester?

Don't get suckered by the material world we live in.....why not simply shove it to one side and get on creating what you see as the real Christmas?

  • I'm not feeling at all Christmassy either, OP.

For a variety of reasons... but I've thought "oh, stuff it" this year; I have no money and my beloved dog Jasper is dying. So I've volunteered to help out at the local old folks' home on Christmas Day, doing bits for the Christmas lunch for the residents and other lonely old people from the town. I actually think that's going to make me much happier than sitting around, stuffing food I don't want and regretting that I can't afford to give expensive presents...

Not sure how pleased my parents are about it, but I'm quite looking forward to getting stuck in with the oldies now!

I just cried reading that post Ruth - what a lovely person you are to make a difference to others when you're going through a hard time yourself.

    Loving hugs for Jasper xx

Not feeling it either - yet! Hoping some festive cheer will kick in tomorrow when I start preparing bits and pieces for Christimas lunch. I'm really trying not to be a 'Bah Humbug' as I have 2 teenagers who are full of Christmas cheer.
  • Forget about this year and remember there is always next year :)

This year will be a bad Christmas for me and my family but next year it won't because I will be debt free and will have a fantastic Christmas for once :)

And remember it can't be as bad as your parents Christmas? I can do better than an apple or an orange for my kids I can give them Mr Kipling exceedingly good cakes :)
I'm not poor i'm just skint

Aw, thanks Candykisses! I am sorry though - I didn't mean to make anyone cry or sound like I'm some sort of holy martyr. TBH, I thought volunteering for a good deed might count for a few more weeks with Jasper from "Him Upstairs" (if that's the way things might work - I have no idea).

Plus, older folks can often be quite fun to talk to - plenty of cheeky stories from times past (and there are rumours of free mulled wine for the volunteer helpers...).

But Jasper and I thank you very much for your hugs - your kind words are greatly appreciated. Feel free to come and give Jasper a wave over on our homepage - link on the left under my username or here - http://jasper-thedogsblog.blogspot.com/.

With love from me and licks from Jasper! xx

Being on one's own really is all about a 'state of mind'....

    like 'boredom', for example?

There is a world of difference between 'being alone'...and being 'lonely'?

I view 'being alone' as being in a state of 'completeness'...a condition whereby, I can do what I wish, when I wish, how I wish....there are no in-built expectations.

If I want to cook, I do.....although increasingly I ask whether it is in fact actually worth while, simply for 'one'...?

But in my home, there is no friction, no intrusion into my privacy....

I have family [below rather than above, so to speak]....and contact is maintained....but after all these years of 'sharing'...or rather,'having to tolerate....'...it's nice to get home, and simply shut the door on the rest of the world...

Do what truly interests you.....run to your own schedule...chose when to mix with others, rather than leave that choice to others..

have your own Happy Christmas, for once...?
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
