Car insurance question

Hi everyone!
Please could I ask for some advice. Im looking into my car insurance which is up later this month. I have been on variety of websites following martins advice. The best quote I have found is £123 for me and my husband on my car. The question is do I take this or go to direct line - who give NCB for named drivers too? My husband has been driving for about 2 years and would like him to build some no claims. Is it better to go for that and pay the £197? or just take the £123 offer?
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Who is the £123 quote from?
The ncb for named drivers with DL can only be used on a future policy for your husband with DL - it isn't transferrable to other companies. Also, how likely are you to need another car in the next couple/few years?:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:A

Hi! Thanks for reply.
The £123 quote is from 'its4me.co.uk' through cornhill. I didn't realise that you couldnt transfer it! I don't think it will be likely that we will get another car in the near future - due to tight budget. I just didnt feel it was fair that my husband wasn't able to have a ncb too...So I was just looking to see if I could make it work. He is a youth worker and due to jobs not lasting too long (due to funding of projects) He may in the future need to transport children etc as part of job (hope this makes sense).. Oh it hard isnt it!'A real friend is the one who walks in,

Because I work days and my husband worked nights we only had the one car but took turns insuring it so that we both built up no claims bonus. I was glad we'd done it that way when he was made redundant and ended up with a day job. We had to buy a second car but at least we didn't have to start from scratch with the insurance on it!0

Not really much point in your OH having ncb if he isn't likely to get another car.
I'd save the £50 if it were me, and go with the cheaper insurance.
Cornhill give £25 cashback on quidco.com - you need to clear your cookies though if you want to get a quote that will enable the cashback to track.:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:A

If he's using your car as a named driver on your policy he needs to be very careful about this. He'll also not be insured to drive another car as a named driver, even the policy holder is only covered for third party on a comprehensive policy.
Not 100% sure but I think special cover needs to be taken out for this type of use as well.
However, if he's using his employers vehicle on their insurance then ignore the above.0 -
Hi everyone. Thank you for your time and effort into replying to my post. Could I ask another question? If in the future my husband did get a job where he had to drive children around - I would then have to obviously change the policy to him being the main driver as he would use it more...my question then is if I stopped being the main driver would I then loose all my ncb built up over the years? Or can I keep it? Thanks'A real friend is the one who walks in,

I can only relate what happened to me re NCB. I didn't have a car for eighteen months and was able to transfer previously earned NCb to new insurer when I started driving again. They told me that in their case the past NCB was valid for two years, as long as there was proof it was not a problem. Don't know if this is the case with all insurers but it was obviously essential to keep proof.0
