Contract exchange to completion: what time period is reasonable?

Title says it all really.
I appreciate it's really down to what buyer and seller agree, but I just wondered what is the "normal" period.

Ours was two weeks. Don't know if that is the norm as I have seen anything from same day to a month on here.0

I exchanged on 12/12/05 and completed 15/12/05. It was a nightmare at the time but worth it.0

Im exchanging end of this week/beginning of next week and planning on completion date of 31st March.Saving needed to emigrate to Oz*September 2015*
£11,860.00 needed = £1,106 in savings

I exchanged on the Tuesday and completed on the thursday, but the whole process took nearly three months. It was a very tense time felt like somebody in the chain was dragging things out, and there was only four in the chain.0

Sore point for us at the moment! We are close to exchange, but hadn't planned on completing until April (but for various reasons it may have to happen a bit sooner).Don't see the point anymore in offering advice to people who only want to be agreed with...0

That's what we want to do - exchange quickly but complete after a longish period. Just wanted to get an idea of what was the longest reasonable time.
I guess someone in your chain thinks that from now till April is *too* long.0 -
When we sold in December, the exchange was on 1st Dec, and the completion date was 8th Dec.
We exchange contracts on our new house on 13th Feb, and completion is on the 20th Feb....not long to go :j
Total was 5 weeks from putting the offer in.0
