Car on Hire Purchase?

Hey guys,

First post on here so go easy!
I went to test drive a used honda approved car last night, afterwhich i was greeted by the usual "BY THIS CAR NOW" jargen.
I do want to buy this car as it is a vast impovement on my micra! There's just a couple of things i want to ask.
First of all, I think i am going for Hire Purchase as i can't afford the full payment and i didn't want any "huge" payment at the end of period of borrowing.
I am borrowing for 3 years so it's not like i'm borrowing forver, and apparently i can put a large amount of money in to decrease the loan whenever i like, free of charge (planning on depositing next years bonus). So this seems like a good idea to me, does anyone have bad experiances with Hire Purchase?
My next question is, last night he seemed pretty keen to get rid of the car fast, and wants me to call him today to put down the £500 deposit to take it off the market, and then pick it up on wednesday. But i am going on holiday to France on Wednesday night, and he knows this... My question is, is there such thing as January sales for used honda approved cars? I get the feeling this is why he wants rid now, so that he gets a bigger commision.
Thanks for your help.

  • Salesman is probably under on this month's sales target and is trying to close the deal ASAP. Never heard of January sales on cars...

Have another look at it after your holiday. I wouldn't put a deposit on it now. The salesman will try the "other people are interested" trick but it is highly likely to still be there. If not, there are plenty more built on the production line at the same time so you won't be waiting long.

You might not get any more money off in January but at least you will have had time to think about it over the holidays and have not committed a £500 non refundable deposit.

Have you checked prices for that model elsewhere at other dealers?

  • Hey,

    Thanks for you replies.
Yes i have checked elsewhere, but none compare. It's an 09 Reg, 8.5k miles - £9000.
I just don't want to miss out on an opportunity...

i'd probably go with what tadleybaggie says, he probably needs to make up his sales figures.

i'd simply wait till you get back. whether or not it goes, something will come along at some point.
  • I've emailed the guy and told him that i will think it over as i am on holiday in france.
I may even decide to just get a car for 4000, then save the monthly payments.

    What do you think?

£2000 - £2500 is plenty for a decent car. Less than 5 years old. One owner.

Thats what i look for. On my 2nd MK3 Mondeo now.

Both bought using the above method.
