Warranty on Replacement New product

in August 2010 I purchased a new pair of glasses

In March 2011 there was a problem with the frame, the optician replaced the frame with a New frame. At the time I verbally confirmed the frame had a 12 month warranty.

Yesterday one of the arms broke off (not due to me) it just fell off whilst i was wearning them. Part of the arm is very thin and just snapped, some how.

I went to the store yesterday to see if they could organise a new frame and was told that the warranty is only based upon the original purchase (Aug 2010), thus the frame is out of warranty.
They also confirmed that the frame comes with a 12 month warranty.

Where do I stand?
