Careful if relying on Sainsburys Xmas delivery

Hi

Just got my Xmas delivery from Sainsbury's which I ordered 2 weeks ago. The Turkey was substituted for a different one but it was much smaller, no good for me.

I thought that they would reserve a turkey for you but obviously not. So if you are relying on them for a Turkey delivery, don't.

I've never had this problem at Xmas with other supermarkets and this is my first order with Sainsbury's so not that impressed.

In the scheme of things not the end of the world but a bit cheeky of Sainsbury's not to guarantee delivery of your chosen Turkey considering the importance most people place on Xmas dinner.

Online Supermarket shopping is not like mail order. With mail order you are requesting , say a Turkey within certain weight parameters. With online shopping, you are giving sainsbury's or any other supermarket your shopping list and they are picking it and delivering it for you. They cannot send you a product if it is out of stock. If your delivery is later in the day, the pickers will only be able to pick what is left on the supermarket shelves, it doesn't come from a seperate warehouse. You give permission for subsitutions or not, they have substituted with what was nearest to your request.

There will be many people who are going to be affected with things like this, I went to sainsbury's today and it was heaving, salad stock was wiped out and you couldn't get coleslaw for love nor money and this was at 2.00pm. All the checkouts were working though today.

I wouldn't leave a supermarket to deliver something so important for a special meal, at this busiest time, you will always be let down.

Just look at what is happening at Fortnum & Masons today. Some people ( Upper crust fortunately ) will be without a Christmas this year due to an IT issue. And that is Mail order, not online shopping.

Have you tried your local Butcher, or farm shop to see if you can get sorted there and take the Sainsbury's one back?

    Good Luck

Sainsburys were doing Christmas Turkey ordering separately by filling a form in which had to be handed in at Customer Service by a certain date last week, this would guarantee your chosen type and weight of turkey. Then you collected between yesterday and tomorrow.

I have online deliveries from Sainsburys every week so knew not to order a turkey with my online shopping! I got mine from the butcher which was such a nice change from supermarket shopping.

You have to remember that Sainsburys do not know how big a turkey you need so it is always best to preorder either from a butcher or find out what the store is doing about turkey pre-ordering.

    Happy Christmas.
