You need to say if the closing reading is actual or estimated-it's clearly marked on your bill.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thank you all for your imput its much appriciated. When i rang them I set up a DD she has set it at £40 per month I have also registered online so I can keep a check on it. I guess i will wait for my first full quarterly account and then use a comparison site to see if there are better offers out there. Thanks for all your help0

Why wait for the first quarterly account? You'll be paying a high price for three months. I'd change to something cheaper straight away.0

I thought you needed at least a months usage to calculate on the comparison sites0

You can change supplier at anytime & comparing usage at this time of the year is nt going to give you a correct annual usage.
I'd email bg via their website & ask them to put the reading 00000 in for 2nd dec & bill you from 00000 to 00090 for the correct period you've used gas for. This will then reduce down yor 1st bill.0 -

You are not going to have accurate gas consumption figures for a year, however that need not be a problem. For quite a range of "normal" annual consumption (say 16,500 gas, 3,300 electric) the order the tariffs are listed in and the % saving, will be approximately right. Much more relveant is that you understand the features of other tariffs. Tariffs at the top of the comparison table are there by virtue of one or more potential "gotchas".:(
I can't advise what to do other than to keep aware what your energy is costing and what it could cost on other tariffs. There should be a good saving from being on Direct Debit and online, which I think you are now on. I would suggest that you establish what savings British Gas offer for that on their standard tariff and that you get them to confirm you are now registered to receive the relevant discounts.0 -
Are you paying more for gas than what you were paying for coal?
I used to have a smokeless coal fire and heating radiators because I had no gas.
Then gas was put into my street and I converted to gas.
I was paying less for gas per week in the winter than I was paying for smokeless coal.
Best thing I ever did. No more cleaning out the fire every morning.0
