Overseas phone calls

Mainly for Martin
I am a big fan of your UK and International call checkers and have saved £££ using them.

Occasionally the information is inaccurate possibly it is just not up to date.
Is their any way we can send you feed back when this occurs in order to make the call checkers even more valuable?

Two current queries
1. The cheapest calls to the Philippines both landline and mobile with StoryTelecom are 11p not the 4p indicated.

2. A more general problem is that many prices are only correct from BT lines.

Have a read of this article

    http://callchecker.moneysavingexpert.com/intcallchecker/#bt

It gives you a e-mail link to call checker to tell him of price inaccuracies, and it covers calls from non bt lines.

    1. AIUI, the Callchecker does some sort of automatic 'trawl' of the various websites each night and, if the site(s) change their format, this sort of error can occur.

For that reason, just under the list of providers, there's a 'click me' way to notify Callchecker if you spot a problem. As you appear to have identified two, please do so.

Having just checked Story's site, the prices currently appear to be 9p/minute to landlines (an 0871 305 number) and 10p/minute to mobiles (an 0871 919 number).

    2. There are so many other providers, it would probably be too cumbersome to attempt to define what each provider charges for each number. Hence, the 'standard' of the price if calling from a BT residential landline is used. The footnote shows that:
    Non-BT landlines

Call prices may vary from non-BT landlines, it's always worth checking your bill to see exactly what you're charged before using one of these providers excessively. Those using a Carrier Pre-Select provider (ie you still pay BT for your landline) can dial 1280 as a prefix to a call, which re-routes them hrough BT and means you will be charged at BT prices.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Hi Jim,

Thanks for the notice on this thread of the StoryTelecom inaccuracies.
You'll be pleased to know that the prices have now been updated.

This problem was due to the relocation of StoryTelecom's excel spreadsheet that lists all of their "Story Direct" prices.

I can also confirm Heinz's comments regarding the trawling - the CallCheckers are updated once a night.

    Thanks.
I look after the CallChecker and FlightChecker.
