Shower Screen On Plasterboard

Options
I want to hang a showerscreen (Argos Cheapo 3mm toughened glass) on a plasterboard wall. At the moment there is a hole in the wall and I can feel the timber that holds up the plasterboard. What do I need to hang the screen securely? Thank you in advance.

if you can screw into the wooden joist underneath the plasterboard then woodscrews will be fine.
If its just plasterboard your screwing into make sure you use heavy duty plasterboard plugs!

Doesn't say so - but would have thought it would come with the basics to fix it - particularly as it's white so you need screw / bolt heads that don't stand out?

However - on the assumption there's some sort of cover plate to go over the screw heads :-

    1. If you can hit the wood in the wall at both top and bottom - you need rust resistant screws such as this :-

    - sized to go at least 2" (50mm) into the wood. Should be able to buy similar in smaller quantities at B&Q etc

    2. If you're going to hit just the plasterboard you need a fairly substantial weight carrying cavity fixing, such as this :-

which will carry a kitchen cupboard / radiator on a plasterboard wall. But check the bolt heads are comfortably bigger in diameter than the fixing hole in the shower screen as you don't want them to pull through? You'll need to use a washer between the bolt head / screen if any risk of that.

Shower curtains much easier to fit / clean and IMHO - more waterproof over time;)
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
  • i think that would be a little overkill... a couple of these will hold a surprsing weight and are considerably easier to work with if you are a novice.

No ... those are totally inappropriate. As they merely screw into the plasterboard. You need something that spreads the load - when considering all the weight of the glass is on 2 small pivot points.
