HELP!! No gas to the hob but oven ok!!

Please can anyone give me any idea as to what my problem is as its nearly Christmas and i'm panicking!!

Just came to do my son's tea on the hob and there is no gas getting through to the four rings. The oven has got a supply to it. Have checked boiler, central heating and all works fine!!

Does anyone have any idea as to what has happened??:mad:

It is very unusual to have gas to an oven when there is none to the hob

I can only assume, and it is never safe to assume, that the cooker is of an age that it has a drop down lid on the hob and this only has a safety shut off, which could be sticking and simple to resolve.

BUT dont mess around without being qualified to do so, the only sure way of finding out is for a QUALIFIED engineer to diagnose the problem ON SITE

I would advise tho that MOST engineers these days replace faulty items rather than repair something that can be repaired with a bit of lubrication???

Thanks for that - now you put it like that i suppose it makes common sense! The cooker is about 3 years old with a glass drop down lid which has a sensor on it! Hope i can get someone asap so I can have my Christmas dinner!!!

Is there not something sticking to the sensor?

I sometimes have to put my lid up and down a few times before the hob works. Or I used to, now I just leave it up all the time.

Thanks Mr Ted - we looked for the safety shut off and the glass wasnt sitting right - sorted now - thanks very much - Christmas dinner awaits now!
