Diesels can be very overrated , you may get a few more MPG, but diesel is more expensive than petrol so thats most of that gone, then as said, you have the dual mass flywheel clutch trap to budget for and all the other high maintenance things they need, then you have the myth, diesels run for ever, the might have done in the 1980's merc era, but today they are often goosed at 100k or in need of constant repair.

Put another couple grand to your £11k and get yourself a Toyota Verso 2.0d with 4yrs warranty still left on it, no DPF and up to 50 mpg.

Might be worth considering a nearly-new one, with a remaining warranty. Unfortunately doesn't seem to be any decent ones from Kia or Hyundai, so you'll miss out on the really long warranties.0 -
