How to get candle wax off material?

Had a bowl shaped candle which when in use, had a lot of melted wax just sitting in it. I blew it out one night then promptly knocked it over.
A mini river of candle wax went all over my table runner. Obviously it cooled and hardened. I tried picking it off but there's loads and I'm a little worried about snagging the material.
Any easy ways to remove it?

II knew a woman who used to put greaseproof paper over and iron on a low heat. Clean it up then work on the stain.0

Put it between several sheets of newspaper (or kitchen roll) and iron carefully. That will get rid of the bulk of the wax but you will need to wash (or use wax remover) to get rid of the stain.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0

I had it on my carpet, used brown paper and an iron, all came off

Oh my, you all used the *iron* word. *shudder* :rotfl:
Thanks, will swallow my aversion to using that thing and will try your suggestions.Herman - MP for all!0 -
The ironing will work with the actual wax (I have used old sheets, anything absorbent that you can throw away) but you may have a stain left from the dye.0

Put it in the freezer for a while, it will come off easily then, then wash by hand in a mild detergent. You live..You learn.:)0

I got some out of a carpet with brown paper and an iron. No stain left. Just apply a tiny bit of heat with the tip of the iron, and keep using a fresh area of brown paper.0

Place layers of kitchen towel over it, and apply heat from above with an Iron pressed on the kitchen towel. Don't try and get it all off with one spot of kitchen towel - move it around and repeat.
Start at low heat and don't leave the iron on too long. You need enough heat to melt the wax, and the kitchen towel will soak it up once melted. If the iron isn't hot enough to melt it, gradually increase heat. Don't use the iron on a steam setting. Just heat only.0
