Thanks a bunch Comet

Options
I have just made my eighth telephone call to Comet(at 10p per minute) to try and get my aged old folks television repaired. The one engineer who arrived brought the wrong part and said the fault should not have been diagnosed over the phone.
Comet refused to arrange the loan of a television over Christmas nor would they agree to a refund ,on the grounds that they have had a reasonable time for repair (since 22/11/11).
Is there anything else I can do?
Thanks

    You mean http://www.saynoto0870.com/ ;)

There are MASSES of geographical numbers for Comet on there. :)
  • Back to basics.
    - How old is the TV?
    - When did it first go wrong?
    - Is it at all usable?

Is the repair being covered by the initial 1 year warranty, or under an extended warranty?

The sale of goods act states that any remedy sought should not cause 'significant inconvenience' to the buyer. If the TV is newish and the fault has rendered it unusable (along with the failed attempts to fix and the problems of chasing) then I would argue that a month without the TV etc is a significant inconvenience.

If the TV is a couple of years old and possibly covered under an extended warranty then I would check the policy details for any time frames it might mention (some enhanced policies from competitors may have 'write off' clauses triggered if a fault is not fixed).

Many thanks for the replies, I will use the cheaper rate numbers now.
I have already let the old folks have the use of a small tv I use in the kitchen. However being elderly seems to generate a lot of stress when things go wrong hence the urgency to get their set fixed.
The television was purchased on 1st April 2011 so still under so called guarantee but fault occurred on 22/11/11 unfortunately outside the six month initial period.
I tried to argue with Comet that as they had had more than a reasonable time to fix the fault they should provide a replacement.Further, that they had misdiagnosed the fault by phone, resulting in an engineer turning up just this week with the wrong, but long awaited spare was also a reason for replacement.
Comet point blank refused to provide a temporary tv or to allow an exchange.
I will just sit it out now and wait for the set to be fixed.
Comet no longer exists as far as I am concerned.
