Funny how prices can come down if nescessary

I am with Flogas, who supply my LPG gas - which is horrendously expensive. Their prices had gone up several times in the past year and eventually became £0.56p per litre. This is nearly double what the price was around 2+ years ago.

When challenged, they stated they couldn't do anything about the price, it was 'the markets' fault. But my neighbour is with Calor Gas for her LPG, on £0.44p per litre. So as my 'contract' was about to expire, I decided to swop over to Calor Gas. Asked Flogas for the serial numbers of my two tanks for the paperwork and 'VOILA', they suddenly decided that they could match the £0.44p per litre (frozen for one year) and also match the £150 'bonus gas award' that Calor were prepared to make. As long as I signed a new two year contract - as it was a lot of potential hassle getting the tanks transferred over to Calor, I agreed to stay with Flogas. But it shows that these companies do want to retain your business, it is simply down to peoples inertia that lets them get away with the ludicrous prices they charge!

Looks like LPG is no different to house insurance, car insurance and all the other services where they try to ramp up the price by inertia in the hope that a certain percentage won't bother to check and just renew.

My house insurance was 60% lower than the quoted renewal using the same company but by using a comparison site, saving some £300 this year.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
