Receipt for a new boiler

We recently had a new boiler installed. Had no problems so far and pretty happy with most of the job but when it came to handing over money the bloke had forgotten his receipt book and that he would post it to me in the new year because the post was so bad at the minute. Now... don't mean to seem overly cynical but I have been told this many times with lots of receipts getting lost in the post. Could someone please tell me what the value of a receipt is in this context?
Thanks

The receipt is part of a paper trail that confirms that he has done the work. If something goes wrong, its very easy for him to say that he didn't install the boiler, and you have nothing to contradict this.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Sounds like either a professional or a tax dodge to me, make sure you're not the victim in this.
If yourman isn't based too far away, why not pre-arrange a visit to his place of work to collect it? You could personally thank him for his work at the same time, which I'm sure he'd appreciate.

You did check that the installer was GSR? Did he supply you with the correctly completed commissioning paperwork?
Please tell us that you didn't pay the balance in cash on completion? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks for your replies. I did check the gas safe register before arranging a quote, although I didn't receive any paperwork apart from the warranty for the boiler and shower. What else should I have received? The warranty has his name, address on so I think I assumed that this would in some way allow the trail to be traced back to him. I am now starting to doubt this!
I paid by cheque so assume there will be some financial trace from us to him, would his tax dodging come back to me in any way?
I like your suggestion about paying him a visit, he isn't too far away so if it doesn't appear then I could happily pop in for a cuppa and a receipt!0 -
