Humax PVR 9300T box terminal this time?

Hi

I've had no end of problems with my Humax PVR, in fact its the third one I've had but now its well and truly out of the guarantee so theres no option of getting another replacement this time.

For months its been playing up, not recording programmes, getting stuck on one channel and we have been having to unplug the power and restart it as its unresponsive.

I have formatted it which we have done several times in the last few months and usually it works again for a while but not this time, I have tried to look for updated software but it said it couldn't be found and I've also scanned for new channels.

Yesterday it would come on and respond for about a minute but then wouldn't respond. Now it says 'No signal' on the screen and BBC 1 on the box itself.

Is there anything more I can do or is it time to buy a new machine? If so does anyone have any suggestions for similar spec alternatives?

Thank you!

Sarah

  • Don't have an answer for you but I have been looking at ditching virgin + box for mother in law, to save her £20+ per month.

Was considering this or the HD FOX2 variant to replace the virgin record facility.

At least you have put me off this version.

    I recommend the HDR-FOX T2 every time.

  • I would say that possibly the problem with the OPs machine is the hard drive is dying.

Before ditching the PVR go to the Humax website and check that your machine has the latest software installed. If possible try another SCART cable. Make sure your TV has been retuned following the switchover. Format the Humax again and carry out a channel search. Make sure the batteries in the remote control are okay. I have a 9200 PVR and have had occasional problems over the years and find that either one or all of my suggestions usually fixes it. On the rare occasions that it locks up I just reboot it. If the hard drive is playing up then you can install another one as they are the same type as a computer uses - if somebody can lend you one then it will eliminate it from the list.

Update - take a look at this http://www.humaxdigital.com/uk/support/downloadcenter_model.aspx?category_seq=63&utm_source=streamsend&utm_medium=email&utm_content=15274839&utm_campaign=Humax%20Alert%3A%20More%20software%20updates%20and%20launches%20for%20December

..and you can also install the latest update via your computer if it's needed.

Thank you all for your responses.

I can't update anything as I can't get into the menu but I tried all those suggestions before it went completly blank like this, the box comes on and says its on BBC1 but the tv still indicates no signal. How do I connect it to the computer?

Could it still be the hard drive do you think?
  • If you clink on the link it tells you everything you need to know including the type of cable needed. There are some tabs at the top. If you can borrow a hard disc then it's worth trying - I'm not sure whether it's a SATA or IDE type but you can find out by taking the top off the case.
  • Thanks again, I think I will try this tonight, I have various leads so hopefully I'll have the right one!

Had similar problem last week. Could only get into the menu after switching off/on and pressing menu as soon as the channel number appeared in the display. The clock was not running either. Once in the menu I updated as the software via over air as the version in the machine had reverted to version **** 19 from whatever the last revision was. Then a default reset in the menu and retune and it has been ok since. You have just missed the latest update, will be broadcast next tuesday.
