HB Changes

Hiya
I'm a tad confused. I got a letter from the council a while back, warning that HB will be paid at the rate of a room in a shared house, from January. However I read recently (the Guardian) that these changes are coming in for January 2013.
Does anyone know when this change will actually occurr?

I believe they come from the anniversary of the claim. If a 34 year old makes a claim in Jan 12 they will be assessed at the shared house rate, if they have had a claim since July 11, it will change July 120

The changes from 25years to 35years for shared accommodation rate come into force January 2012 but when it will affect you depends on when you started receiving Housing Benefit.

Was the letter from the council telling you in general terms that the rules are changing or did it say your HB will be affected from January 2012?
If you're not sure you need to contact your council to find out when the changes will affect you so that you can plan ahead.0
