Is it really so difficult to follow lines on a road?

My trip home involves seven roundabouts, two with filtered lanes. The lines are clearly marked. So can someone please tell me why:

1. People find it so hard to stay within those lines when going around a curve? I am constantly having to break because some idiot to either side of me cannot stay within their lane.

2. Those on the outermost lane (to the right) - especially if driving a van or an unnecessarily large 4x4 - insist on sticking out beyond the give way line - again clearly marked - thereby blocking the view of traffic for those to their left who cannot see whether it is actually safe to proceed?

How do you know it's unnecessarily large?
  • Since when has it been necessary for a passenger vehicle to be as much as half as high as a normal passenger vehicle? And it's besides the point as I'm sure is known and I'm not discussing that point on this thread any further. the point is drivers not following lanes correctly and blocking the view of others at roundabouts.

Because they are the king of the road. They drive a bigger more powerful car thats newer, shinier and supposedly faster. Your job is not to question them but accept that they are superior and their driving skills are far better :rotfl:

Does it matter? - As long as you can keep up with them, they're your shield. When they go, you go too. If they've taken a risk, they get hit, you get away. Took me a while to grasp this principle but I found it works as well as following a bus thats overtaking a stationary vehicle in a narrow road :D

Something I used to agree with until I witnessed a side on smash. The vehicle on the left hand side was afforded no protection. But thanks for the humour!

Because it's invariably a BMW X6 or Range Rover, with a mum, one child and a small lunch box.:rotfl:

In that case when they go, you go faster!

    Glad you laughed :D

My answer is most can't drive and don't give a s**t about anyone else but themselves.

If you don't want to discuss it then don't make the claim in the first place?

They picked the vehicle for a reason... it met their needs. You don't know what their needs are so you cannot say it's unnecessarily large. My neighbour has a shiny new 4x4 which he often uses as a van if his work van is tied up on a job or fully loaded. If I didn't tell you that you would no doubt assume his 4x4 was "unnecessarily large" as well.

Nobody would deny that some have valid uses, but seriously..... Even you have to admit that most of them are fashion statements ;)

How many X6's do I see? One 4x4/4wd that is quite frankly a worse less pile of poo for anything other that lording it over the peasants.

  • Very true. Car going straight on at the roundabout and I'm turning right, so I should be able to stay on the right hand side of them, but no; they end up nearly sideswiping me as they can't be bothered following the lines.

Similarly turning right into roads, the number of times I've had to brake suddenly as someone can't be bothered to turn properly and ends up cutting into my lane.

    The list goes on.
