Car insurance and credit rating question

I was just wondering if anyone knows if i apply for a car insurance quote online or over the phone (or a few), will it affects my credit rating?

I was just a bit confused to why the quote I applied for on a comparision site showed up on my Experian account.

Do they do a credit search?

Hi, this is only a generic identity search to check you are who you say you are.

It is only visible to you on your file, it cannot be seen by other companies doing a search !

Bear in mind, of course, that if it's just for a speculative quote (i.e. not one you'd actually be taking out, just to see if they would insure you on that Ferrari) then there's gonna be a lot of quotes udner the name "Testing McTest"

Be aware that the more you search can increase the price...
Some people here say not, test it and you will see how the prices change with the more quotes that you do.

Tell me why then that my credit reports states, your credit score is currently being affected by 10 searches, to improve your score reduce searches. Note - 7 insurance related searches? I don't quite understand how it is not impacting when Experian say that it is?? Anyone
