Travel Insurance covering me while working abroad

Options
Hey guys,
I work all over the world for 8 weeks at a time and then 4 weeks leave. Used to get travel insurance through my Barclays bank account but they have now changed the insurance so it is useless to me.

So i am looking for another travel insurance product. mainly just to cover my possessions while away as i have private health cover from work and work would also pay to get me home if needed.

I have no idea where to start looking, mostly due to the lenght of my trips, and the countries i go to arent always the most tourist friendly places...

thanks in advance

If you only want cover for your possessions then an all risks policy just to cover those items is probably what is needed. Many of the travel insurance products will have exclusions on them relating to working so that is possibly not the correct product to buy as it may not pay out in the event of a claim.

Suggest you contact a broker and enquire about world wide all risks insurance. No doubt someone will be along later with the name of a co.

I think IMG will do this - or even AXA/BUPA International.

If your an employee, your employer should be arranging cover for you

I work for a nice foreign company that doesnt arrange any insurance i'm afraid, apart from medical insurance

According to ING website, they arent offering home insurance anymore and so dont know where to look on their website.

What kind of broker do i need? will a general insurance broker be able to help me, or do i need someone else?

Do you have a place in the UK? If so, most contents policies have an option to insure personal possessions away from home.

oo LazyDaisy, thats a very good idea. I do have a place here and my buildings and contents is with AVIVA as they were the only company that i could find who would agree to insure my home if i was away for over x number of days.

So if i can get my possessions insured with them away from the home and have medical cover from work, thats pretty much all i need?

Or am i forgetting something else obvious and important?

Well, that wouldn't cover you if, for example, you were ill and couldn't make a flight, and incurred extra travel expenses/hotel costs as a result.

It also wouldn't cover you for repatriation if you had to be flown home, or if someone at home was taken ill and you needed to curtail your trip.

Those are things that would normally be covered by travel insurance, but I guess in that sort of emergency your employer would step in anyway? I can't really think of anything else.

    Thanks zzzLazyDaisy
When i travel for work, work has to pay flights and we always have fully flex and when we miss them (it has happened) they get me a new ticket. If someone was ill at home, they would fly me home if at all possible, and if i was ill they would fly me home.

Also if i take a holiday i will have normal travel insurance.

so i guess everything is covered.
