French door blinds in kitchen

Options
I am getting new French doors added to our kitchen. The doors are at the back of an extension leading into the back garden. The cooker is on the side wall right by the doors and I was thinking that steam etc from the coker would make blinds go sticky etc.

Are there blinds specifically designed for these situations and what have other people done. Vertical or horizontal?

Any advice much appreciated.

Many thanks

No direct experience but I would think that horizontal blinds will attract the grease and dust more than vertical ones, and be difficult to clean (think tops of cupboards ... ).

No magic solution......although I am not aware of many vertical blinds that are easy to clean! Go horizontal and just make sure that you can clean them easily.

Do you actually have to have blinds?

My parents have french windows at the end of their kitchen extension, and they don't have any blinds (they don't have any at the kitchen window either, come to mention it).

I can't help but think that blinds would ruin the inside/out qualities of the doors when they're open, tbh..?:(

buy the cheapest blinds and replace them when required.
thats what we do in our bathroom.
    Get some gorm.
  • if double glazed doors have a look at a system called perfect fit it clips into the seal round the glass dont know your layout could fit to otherside of your kitchen doors. Hope this helps.

I would suggest you solar shades or bamboo shades they absorb the heat keeping your room tempreature constant.
  • Thanks everyone.

I definitely need blinds for privacy. Ideally I would move the lintel up and and have a long horizontal or material blind to pull down when it gets darker in the evening. I will look into the perfect fit blinds.

My idea about the lintel would be good as the blinds wouldnt be attached to the door and there wouldn't be that risk of teh wind caching them. Not sure if that is possible though :-)
  • ive got french doors in the kitchen and have a simple roller blind fitted in the recess above the door, drilled into the wall either side. During the day I have the blind rolled right to the top so it isnt in the way, and is hardly noticable. I only use it at night for privacy.

The blind is cream and has been up for 4 years, and isnt showing any signs of discolouration.
