Wedding Venue gone into liquidation

From what you say, it sounds like they may have already been in trouble when you made the booking, otherwise why would they require full payment so far in advance? Everywhere we looked at required a deposit to secure the booking, then the balance 6 weeks before the wedding. If for no other reason, how can you possibly know how many guests will be attended 6+ months before the wedding? The discount thing seems like a common ploy as well to make you think it's worth paying early. I've seen a few threads here and on another forum I use that are exactly the same.
Have a look here, other people are in the same position as you.

Unfortunately without wedding insurance you have no choice but to see if the venue is bought out.
This is such a sh!ty thing to happen, i really hope you get some good fortune soon.
And get wedding insurance ASAP! It can cost as little at £25 and its worth every penny. Sadly it won't help with whats already happened, but it will ensure that should anything else goes wrong, you're covered. xx0 -
Is Aspire a 'middleman' type company, and Eastington Hall a completely separate venue, run by someone else? I'm a bit confused at the moment?0

Someone else in the same boat here: http://www.youandyourwedding.co.uk/community/forums/thread/337704

All of which might be worth keeping an eye on to see if they get any result, you can then follow up too. What a crappy thing to happen and I am sorry about that. However, it is the people that make it a wedding though, Holiday Inn do packages for £999, can you do one of those instead? No, it is not huge and fancy but the most important thing is that your daughter and her fiancee have a wedding to remember - wherever that might be. Maybe you can hire a big hall and loads of people muck in and help out with decorations and food to make it the most memorable occasion ever.0 -

Sorry Minnie, we crossed.
It looks like the Aspire have exclusive use of the venue.
The reason one went before the other is because, at a guess, the people who own the property stopped letting them use it before they lost any more money.0 -

Who may receive a few pennies to the pound or whatever depending on what assets there are. A company of that nature won't have any fixed-assets to speak of, it's all about their order book and goodwill. The request to pay the balance for a discount was very obviously and cynically done to improve their cash-flow in an attempt to stave off the liquidation. This is the sort of thing that businesses experience all the time, especially in the current economic climate but that's no comfort to you. Expect to get offers of alternative arrangements from the ex-directors' new company who still have your details and know that you'll need somewhere else now but make sure that you do not give these particular shysters your business. You can be confident that they will have got their wages out before the worst happened. It ruddy stinks, doesn't it? You have my sympathy for what it's worth. i.e. not very much under the circs.
I think this pretty much sums it up.
As B&T says it happens regularly to businesses.
I don't imagine there is anything substantive you can do.
I'm very sorry for you.0 -

I am one of the unfortunates that has been made redundant by Aspire venues and i was really angry to read the above posted by Biter&Twisted. I can assure you....we have NOT been paid and have been told not to hold our breath for our wages or monies owed...we as ex-employee's are in the same boat as any client/supplier that were involved with Aspire Venues. I am as angry as everyone else... we had no warning this was coming and have been left high & dry at this time of year. Just hope it can change hands with new owners and all customers can carry on with their wedding plans and we may have a job!!! we are being told as much as you guys.... not alot.
Merry Christmas aye!!!0 -
Unfortunately the new owners will not be liable for any previous payments to Aspire as they themselves will have to pay suppliers / caterers etc - therefore we'd have to pay again. Our wedding (booked for June 2012) is also affected luckily we only paid the £1000 deposit by card so will be covered but unfortunately menus / invites / honeymoon etc all wasted unless we can keep the date and place with the new buyer (if that lands)0

Jobless, I am sorry about your job.
I think the poster meant that the business directors pulled their wages before it went under, not the employees who always, inevitably, end up in your situation.
I hope that you manage to get a new job soon.0 -
PMSL...... :cool:Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0
