I'm thinking of having a trip there to buy a Barbour jacket from the outlet. Is it an outlet shopping center and are all the shops discounted? Also any idea what the Barbour outlet is like please. It's a bit of a drive but if there are good savings to be had I don't mind:T

I was there about ten years ago, So my info is a bit out of date. Back then it was designer stores and the odd outlet like cotton traders. But then things change. At least it did not go down hill, Like Southampton's Ocean Village.

Been there a few times including this year. It's pretty good and there are normally bargains to be had. Can't say I've been to the Barbour outlet though."...IT'S FRUITY!"0

I've never found it any cheaper than the high street but is a pleasant place to visit. Shops seem to have less of a range of goodsYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0

I live in the local area but the last time i went was 2 years ago.
It's reasonably priced, slightly cheaper for designer stuff but not much cheaper than the high street. That being said, there are some bargains to be had - last time i went i got a pair of checked vans for £12, the catch was that they were velcro so didn't look as good as the lace/slip ons. Levis do slightly irregular jeans for £70 for 2 pairs if i recall correctly.
The only reason i've not been back is because i rely on hand me downs for clothes, but i think i'd still prefer the high street/online for bargains as i tend not to buy designer clothes anyway.0 -
i took my daughter to meet some friends there a couple of months ago, it was fine for a day out but burger king cost an arm and a laeg and the order wasn't even right, and i didn't think there was much in the way of savings. The Kipling shop is nice but i'd just bought a cheap kipling bag on amazon, and the teenage girls liked the Jack Wills shop, apparently jack wills underwear is worth £8 a pair to them
Oh just edited to say we went by train and you kind of go over the car park entrance, it was HEAVING but this was about 1pm we arrivedSmokefree since 27-9-20070 -
It's local to us too, so we've been a couple of times recently. There are lots of decent shops located together so good for a day out browsing, but I don't think any of the shops are particularly cheap - mostly the offers are exactly the same as you'll find in their high street stores. Certainly haven't been overwhelmed by stand-out bargains when we have been; a few good deals to be had here and there, especially if you're non-standard sizing, but that's usually true of careful high-street shopping too. If you pop in to the information booth then you can get some extra money-off vouchers that help a bit. However, I suspect that if you're after "good savings" then you may come away disappointed.
No shortage of places to eat, and outside by the water in the summer is nice, but very expensive. Definitely search offers carefully before going.
As for getting there, Gunwharf is often packed and getting there by car seems to involve queuing through Portsmouth, plenty of car parking underground once you're there though (expensive, as you'd expect). Train is much easier, and it's a short walk from Portsmouth Harbour station so that's certainly the less stressful option.0 -
It's quite a pleasant day out and there are some nice eateries too (there's even a Subway if you are watching the budget).
Some of the shops are not cheaper than your local sales (the Denby one springs to mind), and some have limited runs of pre-release items.
Whether you bag a bargain or you end up spending more than you bargained(!) for is up to you.0 -
It is Ok, was much better for bargains when it first opened. It has an M & S outlet which is quite good, plus a fairly new Cath Kidston outlet. Loads of restaurants and quite nice by the waterfront.
Regarding Barbour, a couple of years ago it was excellent (before the coats became 'trendy') I still regret not getting a biker style navy jacket for £60.00!! The prices are not as good now and can be strange selection of sizes as it's an outlet.
I would not travel from a long distance just to visit one shop, however still a nice day out if you have plenty of cash to splash.A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

its not that great TBH and i live less than 3 miles away and i never go there.
Parking is silly expensive now.. so be prepared to get bent over and taught a lesson when you pay to leave.
i would just look online to see how cheaply you can find your jacket.Mortgage free wannabe!
Total mortgage = £106k
Monthly payments = £523
Extra monthly Payments = £500
Total extra paid in 2012 = £5000 -

I went a few months ago, and the queue to the car park for Gun Wharf Quays was very long and moving very slowly. We turned around and used sat nav to find another car park. We parked in a council pay and display car park which was very close to the pedestrian access near the M&S outlet shop. This was very cheap compared to the car parks in my area, and could park straight away with out having to queue as well as being very close to Gun Wharf Quays.0
