AA savings sort code?

...I have just set up a direct debit with this outfit but I can't recognise the first part of the reference number appearing in my linked account. I've run it through the sort code checker and is not recognised ie it is six digits. I won't put the number on here as I don't know what it represents.
I have checked the AA savings site and can't find their sort code? (also birmingham midshires/aa seem to set up a dd for each account you open?.....thanks ed:eek:

From the AA website under FAQs:

If your bank allows you to make an electronic transfer from your bank's Internet account, or arrange a standing order, you may be able to send money to your AA Internet Extra account by using the following details:

    Account name The AA
    Sort code 20-97-78
    Account number 70372609
Reference Your AA Internet Extra account number

Does this mean we could pay future money in from another account using these details rather than always being restricted to our linked account for paying in?

I have paid money into my Internet Extra Account using Faster Payment from an external account directly.

    As buffman says, yes.

I did this yesterday with my test transaction of £1 out (didn't go via direct debit, but did take several hours) and back in, which appeared within 2 hours.

That's great - thanks to both of you. The AA made such a point of the linked account I wasn't sure I could pay in from another account and I didn't want to risk it until I was sure.

You were only ever restrictied to your linked account for withdrawing, not depositing.

I transferred £1 a while ago just to make sure this was the case. It appeared in my account by the end of the next working day.

There is a link for "deposit" on the left hand AA menu that gives you the numbers needed (same as above in this thread).
