Visa & Medical Cover in France

Options
Quick question, might seem stupid to you all but its my last hope.

Basically my wife is French and she went back to France for Christmas to see her family on the 15th of December and I joined them yesterday, my wife traveled with our 8 month old daughter. The first day she got to France our daughter started being ill, long story short she ended up having to take her to hospital and has now been in there with bronchitis since Sunday and our bill is racking up and as i type this is standing at £500 which already includes the 80% discount for the Euro card (equivalent to the old E11 travel card).

So my questions is what are my options, we have learned a hard lesson and i have now taken out a travel insurance to cover our family but obviously will not work for this claim. Are we covered in any way because we bought the flights with a Visa Debit card?

If anyone has any other suggestions which can get us out of paying this bill which is getting bigger and bigger by the day then please let me know.

Thanks in advance .

Dan

Paying with a Visa debit card does not provide any travel insurance. The EHIC only entitles you to the same treatment at the same cost as locals of the country you are visiting.

Do you have any travel insurance attached to a bank account perhaps such as the Nationwide FlexAccount or a bank account you pay for?

No unfortunately not. it was worth asking as the social working in the hospital felt that Visa was our last home, looks like a nice bill before Christmas for me.

    Lesson learned, get travel insurance!

Do you or your wife have any medical insurance through an employer's scheme, because this might include European area?
