How do I wire a bt phone point back onto the wall?!

Evening. I've been a plum. I took the screws out of our master (and only) bt point so the plasterer could plaster the wall right up to the edges. However, he has accidentally knocked it off and I didn't make a note of which cables went where (which I had planned to do in case this very thing happened, but I didn't get round to it.
Anyway, I've done a bit of research but need more help.
It looks like the phone point is a NTE5 and it has an A, B and E connection on the back. I have 4 cables coming out of the wall - black, white, brown and green. I am fairly sure I remember there were only 2 cables connected to it when it was up and running.
Any ideas which goes where? I have done loads of googling but no search is able to help with the cable colours which I have. Help!
Many thanks!

You need a volt meter.
You only connect to the A and B connections on the master socket.
B is -50V to earth [and by that I mean earthed metal in your house]. A is +50V to B. It is more complicated if you find you have 2 A's and 2 B's.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. its usually blue to one screw and blue/white to the other screw0

Thanks for the advice. I haven't got a voltmeter but could ask around. I guess there is no other way of knowing then?0 -
Can't you just connect them up trial and error?
See if the phone rings.
The voltage is low so I can't see how anything could be damaged.
In my house the wires are orange and white. As surely as night follows day capitalism will come crumbling down. On a mission to secure a just and ethical society.0 -
If there is a junction box on your premises to which the other end of your cable is connected, some kind of screwdriver assisted psychic process might reveal which 2 cores are the active ones, but you still won't know which way around they go. But don't go trying psychic processes in street boxes! Thanks for the advice. I haven't got a voltmeter but could ask around. You could use trial an error - but one case is the poles will be switched... and it'll still work. I'm not sure what long term problems that would cause, but I've found OR fitted NTE5s with reversed poles, so meh, I guess.0
